Summer Ready

Summer is almost here and I'm already making my list of all the things i want in my life to embrace the warmer weather with!   Yellow is perhaps one of my favorite colors and this Phillip Lim Pashli satchel will make a great statement this Summer! I can dress it up or down but one thing is for sure, this beauty is a timeless classic and certainly worth the investment as it is sure to drop some jaws along the way!   (Here are a few more affordable options)

One of my absolute must haves for summer is a great pair of sunnies!  While I've been a fan of aviators for quite some time now, I'm absolutely smitten by Ray Ban's Mirrored Aviators... so much so that I've already purchased these stunners!  They're so light and comfortable that i barely notice them on yet they pack on quite a statement!  

Of course, it wouldn't be summer without a great pair of sandals!  The gladiator style sandal is back and better than ever!  These Sam Edelman beauties will go with just about any outfit!  Pair it with a long skirt, short dress, capris... anything really!  You just can't go wrong with a great pair of strappy sandals in my opinion!

Nuance Salma Hayek Jojoba Dual Phase Body Oil

I'm HORRIBLE when it comes to hydrating my skin!  Not my face... I'm always very careful to take care of it.  However, I'm 100% guilty of not showing the same love for my body... that is... until i met Nuance Salma Hayek Jojoba Dual Phase Body Oil.  Oh Em Geee!  A few spritzes of this beauty and my body shines without any of the annoying greasiness!  I'm seriously obsessed with this body oil!  It's made with coconut oil and passion fruit oil.  This oil is way more enriched than a regular lotion and it leaves my skin feeling oh so soft and silky smooth!  This baby is Paraben free and no worries... it is not tested on animals!  Phew!  You can pick it up at your local CVS!  Convenient and affordable... now that's my kind of beauty!

Temptu Kaleidoscope Color Collection - TUTORIAL

Ever since Temptu came into my life, I've become completely smitten with this amazing beyond words airbrush system!  Seriously!  You can see my initial tutorial on how to use the Temptu system here.  So this time, I'm playing with a new pod that is simply gorgeous!  The Airpod Highlighter in GOLD is the most stunning shimmery hue that will seriously make your skin glow!  I think it's especially beautiful for the warmer weather.  Mind you, I'm as pale as can be and it totally works but I'm imagining that this beauty will be spectacular on sun kissed skin!  Oh and last time i used my beloved Patricia Field Temptu System, but this time, i used one from the new Kaleidoscope Color Collection in Aquamarine.  You guys, this collection is simply spectacular!  I'm so drawn to these beautifully happy hues!  If you are intimidated by the idea of an airbrush system (i can respect that because i was too), i promise... this one is easy and won't leave you looking like a circus clown!  It seriously leaves my skin looking like porcelain.  My favorite feature is the highlighter pods.  I use them all the time because i think they provide the most beautiful and intense glow... in fact, i used the Gold pod on my lips and love love LOVE it!  OK, check out my video and see how i created a dewy Spring/Summer look!  Also, i just ordered the Bronzer Pod and cannot wait to see how that baby contours!  Stay tuned for that review as well as the Face Tan Pod review! Unexpected Emotions!

I was recently invited by an editor at People's Style Watch magazine to attend a photo shoot for Mary Kay's Fall Campaign that will be featured in the magazine.  They wanted to add a 'behind the scenes' element to the photo shoot and i was the lucky one to document it.  While i can't wait to tell you all about this dream come true event, i must first get something off of my chest!  This past week has been a roller coaster of emotions.  When i initially received the email, i could hardly contain my excitement!  I mean, could you imagine???  Being asked to be a part of a real NYC fashion/beauty photo shoot?!!!  I could just die.... but not before this event of course! Then... i got the email detailing the time and place of the photo shoot and that's when my heart suddenly sank. Perhaps I'm being a bit dramatic, but when i realized this photo shoot was down town, i knew that the day had finally arrived... the day I'd dreaded since September 11, 2001.  I needed to take the World Trade Center Path to get me to this destination!  Did i have other options?  Sure, i could have driven in through the Holland Tunnel except that the Pulaski skyway was closed for renovations and i worried about massive traffic issues.  I could have driven into the city via the Lincoln tunnel, which i seriously considered, and then taken the subway to my final destination. But really, the way that made the most sense was taking the path to the WTC station and then a quick subway ride.  The only problem was, i had not taken the path since before 9/11.

Let me back track.  I worked in NYC in the fashion industry many years ago.  On that dreaded day, i remember riding the bus into work and admiring (as i always did) the incredibly gorgeous NY skyline.  That day in particular was just perfection... it had never looked better nestled beneath the bluest of skies!  Little did i know... that was the last time I'd ever see that beautiful skyline exactly the way that it looked that very morning.  That day was quite traumatic for many... while i was one of the lucky ones to arrive home safely, many weren't so fortunate.  I'm still very scarred by all that i saw and endured on that day.  Getting home at one point seemed almost impossible. OK, what does this have to do with with the photo shoot?  Well, first... i haven't been able to go to Ground Zero since this all went down.  I knew eventually i would but eventually just seemed so far away!  Second,  i remember the WTC station exactly as it was before 9/11 and i wanted it to stay that way in my memory forever.  I remember back when... going up the massive escalators and seeing one of my favorite stores at the very top... J. Crew!  I knew that this time, this store... and all the others would no longer be there.  I dreaded going up those escalators... DREADED!  But... it had to be done!

So finally, the moment arrived... and while i wanted so badly to feel the excitement of the much anticipated photo shoot, all i could think about was the dreaded escalator ride.  Once the train arrived at WTC, i began to feel major anxiety.  I knew the time had come and i had to put on my brave face and just GO!  I took a deep breath and stepped on the escalator.  I began to feel shortness of breath and my body began to feel very heavy.  I seriously thought for a moment that i might pass out.  I looked up in anticipation... who knows, maybe J. Crew would still be there?  As i got closer to the top, it all started to sink in.  It was gone... all of it!  There was nothing left.... at the top of that long dreaded escalator was just a few news stands and a wall... not a permanent wall, just some temporary coverings masking the sadness and devastation left behind.  I wanted to cry... sob really!  I knew that i had to compose myself but all i could do is walk.... run!  I ran.... i ran and ran!  I saw a church... a church i remember so well from before... it was all pretty much in tact still and just as I'd remembered it.  But every time i looked at the emptiness of those two holes on the ground i felt defeated!  So all i could do was run.... until i found a subway station to bring me to my final destination.

These emotions truly creeped up on me so unexpectedly!  How could something so exciting bring me to such a dark place?  But it did... I'm glad really.  I'm glad that i finally got a chance to confront a major fear of mine.  As difficult as it was, I'm glad that this moment is finally done and over with... and now, i could finally enjoy this major occasion... the photo shoot!

Spring Awakening

Spring is here and the new season has me thinking about how much i love a naturally refreshed flawless complexion!  For this post, i've teamed up with my fellow Allure Magazine Beauty Blogger finalist Arielle of Beauty By Arielle to show you just what products we find essential to create a wonderful 'spring awakening' look!  Take a peek at Arielle's post here.  It's no secret that i'm a HUGE It Cosmetics fan.  While i've tried a plethora of products, nothing gives me a perfectly flawless complexion like the three It Cosmetics products pictured above.  The CC cream, Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer and Celebration Foundation are permanent fixtures in my daily makeup repertoire.  I begin by applying CC cream all over my face using a plush foundation brush.  A few dabs of Bye Bye Under Eye concealer instantly give me that 'i've just slept for a million hours look' even when i've barely slept for four!  Celebration Foundation seals the deal by setting the previous products into my skin while giving me a porcelain like finish.  Another amazing product that i've recently tried and LOVED is Pixi's Eye Brightener Liner!  A few swipes of this waterproof liner on your inner rim will instantly brighten your eyes!  Pssst... check out all the other tricks i can do with this little liner!  Such a tiny addition can make a major difference in your overall appearance!  I swear, these four products are among my absolute favorite 'can't live without' situations! Perfection!

Warm Weather Hair and Body

We seriously had the most glorious weekend here in Jersey!  This sudden and much needed warm weather surge has me reaching for some current favorite products that are seamlessly helping me transition my hair and body from the recent polar vortex to the upcoming pollen vortex!  

I was recently introduced to Bikini Soft and let me tell you, this stuff is amazing!  Forget shaving creams and soap, this powerful duo will leave your skin baby soft!  It dramatically reduces skin irritation, razor burn, nicks, cuts, scratches and my personal favorite... ingrown hairs!  Yuck! This wonderful mixture of natural oils lubricates the skin and softens the hair shaft with transparent natural oils derived from plants which leave your skin beautifully smooth!

With the warmer weather fast approaching, it's time to start taking your deodorant seriously.  If you're looking for an 'all natural' option, look no further than Sydelle Cosmetics Pampered Pits! This baby is powerful enough to handle the scorchers but yet so gentle on your skin.  Natural deodorants can be tricky, but this one passed the sniff test with flying colors!  Oh and if you guys get a chance, definitely check out this brand for some amazing and all natural beauty options! One thing (well, one of many) that i love so much about warm weather is that i can finally give my hair a little break from the hair dryer and just let it air dry!  ECRU's Silk Nourishing Spray makes it a cinch!  Seriously, a few spritzes of this beauty on my damp hair and i know that it will dry silky smooth!  Thank goodness for products like these that save me major time!  This mommy definitely appreciates that! 

I'll never forget the day i discovered St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse at my local Sephora! Holy awesomeness!  No seriously... I've tried so SO many self tanners before and between the wacky orange shades and mad streaking, i nearly gave up on the whole thing!  So glad i gave this beauty a try!  This mousse creates a gorgeous natural looking tan without any streaking.  I've used it countless times and I've never EVER turned any yucky shade of anything other than gorgeous! Oh one thing i recommend investing in is the St. Tropez Tan Applicator Mitten... your hands will be SO GLAD you picked this up!  I love being able to cover my body in this self tanning product and never schlepping around any sort of evidence!

Speaking of self tanning, i came across this super awesome Sunless SpotShields and couldn't wait to share them with you! I don't know about you, but i have a few sun spots on my face, shoulders and chest.  I know... bad Carla!  But they're there and i so i must live with them.  Well, one of the drawbacks of self tanning is the darkening of such spots.  Well, guess what?  Sunless SpotShields come in a variety of sizes and you can simply size them to match your sun spots prior to self tanning.  Think of them as tiny little stickers that you place over your sun spots to keep them from getting darker while you create your perfect sunless tan.  The best party... a sunless tan plus Sunless SpotShields actually camouflages these unsightly marks making them practically invisible! Genius!

Hi... my name is Carla and i'm obsessed with Pixi everything!  This stunning blue nail polish completely stole my heart!  How can you not fall in love with this gorgeous hue!  It's easily one of the hottest colors of the season.  I'm currently wearing it on my toes and have already rocked it on my nails a bunch of times!  I simply adore it!

I'm all for innovative multi-tasking products!  I mean, anything that can save me time and wow me in the process is sure to make the FMM cut!  Such was the case with Amarte's Daily ExfoliPowder!  This plant based exfoliant is gentle enough on your skin that you can and should use it daily.  In fact, you can use this product to exfoliate and cleanse!  What's so innovative about that you ask?  Well, this beauty comes in powder form!  Simply apply on your wet hands.  Next, rub your hands together to create a foam like wash that will instantly leave your skin cleansed, polished and prepped for your skincare! While many exfoliants feel sandy and harsh on the skin, this one almost feels like tiny pearls massaging the skin.  I'm thoroughly enjoying the effects of this beauty on my skin!  I like to keep my ExfoliPowder in the shower to ensure that i never forget to use it.  Bonus?  It smells amazing!

Bath and Body Works Spring Preview

Salma Hayek Nuance

Who knew... an actress i so admire, Salma Hayek, now has an extensive collection of makeup, body, skin and hair care!  Yes, you read correctly!  Her gorgeous line, currently available exclusively at CVS, is filled with wonderfully affordable products that will have you instantly smitten!  I've recently had the pleasure of trying some of these beauties and wanted to share with you some of my faves!

Ever since i got my hair cut, I've gotten my curls back!  While i can still wear my hair straight, it's so refreshing to be able to let it air dry without looking like a brillo pad!  Well, this is partly in thanks to wonderful products like Nuance's Blue Agave Curls and Waves Shampoo/Conditioner! I top my curly look off with Nuance Blue Agave Wave Enhancing Styling Swirl. When i opt to skip my blow drying session, i immediately reach for this awesome trio.  They really help to define my curls and minimize the frizz.  Oh and it smells uhhhhh-mazing.  However, if it's straight that I'm craving,  Nuance has an awesome Straightening Balm that really helps maintain my hair pin straight and smooth!  I also loved the Soy Protein Primer Spray.  I felt that it was a wonderful, lightweight product that truly prepped my hair for styling products and long lasting style. I love that it's formulated with Acai oil and has color-lock technology with UVB absorbers to prevent sun damage!  Lastly, I've been obsessed with hair oils for years!  I love a good product that nourishes my hair and leaves it looking silky and shiny.  Nuance's Healthy Shine Nourishing Oil leaves my hair hydrated and gorgeous.  A little goes a long way!  I love applying this beauty on my ends to seal the final look!

On to Nuance's skincare!  Surely you don't need me nagging you about the importance of cleansing your skin daily right?  Well, a good cleanser doesn't have to break the bank!  Nuance's Age Affirm Glycolic Cream Cleanser will leave your skin squeaky clean and prepped for your skincare ritual.  I keep mine in the shower to ensure that i never go a day without using it!  Another product I'm really enjoying is the Ageless clarity White Clay Treatment Mask!  This beauty helps absorb oil and cleanse pores for clear, healthy-looking skin!  I simply apply it a few minutes before getting in the shower to facilitate the 'washing off' process.  Use this baby weekly for amazing results!

I have to say, i was so impressed with Salma Hayek's hair and skin collection!  I will definitely replenish several of these products!  It's so nice to know that i don't have to spend a lot to find quality products!  Besides, any excuse to visit my local CVS is OK with me!!!  I always find some great beauty options there!  Can't wait to check out Nuance's makeup collection.  It looks quite enticing!  If you've tried and loved any particular Nuance makeup product, I'd love your recommendations!

I totally obsess over cute packaging!  And while yes, the product itself is important, i personally think it's essential that it's outfitted in ultra chic attire, no?  Mally's feminine and ultra fun personally totally shines through in her makeup packaging!  Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer System is no exception!  First, this all you can ask for system is housed in the prettiest of pink pouches making it totally portable and travel friendly! In it you'll find a dual sided brush... one side for your concealer application and the other for powder.  The pouch contains a pocket for both the concealer and the powder compact.  The concealer is full coverage and completely erases my dark 'mommy needs sleepy time' circles.  The powder tops off the application smoothly and flawlessly.  I will definitely toss this beauty in my travel bag!

Brush Love

A good hair brush is an essential part of healthy hair management.  I've certainly got a few that I'm quite partial to. Most recently, I've tested out a couple of awesome brushes from Brush Lab via brushlove.com and have fallen... well, in love!  I love the Large Thermal Round brush as it's ideal for straightening and perfecting my look.  I love that it grips my hair firmly without any tugging or pulling.  The handle is comfortable to hold and is not slippery which makes styling a cinch! Another brush that i love is the Zebra Cushion Paddle hair brush.  This brush is amazing for detangling and smoothing hair.  I like to use it as soon as i walk out of the shower to prep my hair for blow drying.  It's also great for combing your hair out in the morning.  This brush has been quite useful not only on my hair but on my little girls' hair!  It works wonders and I'm quite pleased!

ECRU Luxe Treatment Travel Set

Supernova, a pretty plum with glitter specs, and Lunar eclipse, a gorgeous golden olive green that will stun a crowd!  The multi-tones make these shadows ideal for creating a dramatic eye.  Both shadows contain some tiny specs of glitter so expect some fall out when applying.  This can easily be cleaned up with a makeup wipe!  Initially i was a bit hesitant with the glitter, but once it's on, it's actually quite stunning.  The pigmentation is on point and i find myself reaching for these beauties quite often, especially the Lunar Eclipse!

Another Hard Candy product i'm loving is GLOSSAHOLIC in Sweet Peach (pictured above). This non-sticky gloss adds a subtle amount of color and packs on the shine!  Perfect for when you're on the go!  Hard Candy Products are conveniently available at Walmart so go check them out!

A Few Little Tricks with Pixi

Ok, so i recently discovered a major 'must have' product!  Pixi's Eye Brightener Liner is one of those products that initially may not seem so exciting, but when you realize the power of this little beauty, you may just claim it as one of your new staples!  Here's why!

• Use number one... a few easy swipes on your water line (it's water proof btw) and you'll instantly look refreshed and awake!  Gosh where has this beauty been all of my life!

• Use number two, line the outside of your lips and blend to lift your lips!  Also, it will keep your lipstick from straying which is a major plus!  

Pair this Eye Brightener Liner with Pixi's Correction Concentrate - Brightening Peach concealer under your eyes to give you the perfect amount of coverage under your eyes.  This powerful duo will leave you looking like you've had 10 hours of sleep, even on nights when you've barely slept 5 (hello mommies, you feel me right?)
