Goal Getter - Setting Intentions for the New Year!

Saturday, December 30, 2017

With 2017 coming to a close, I want to take a minute (or two) to reflect on the successes and challenges of this past year.  I have to say that I've been a bit all over the place lately and just feeling quite foggy and overwhelmed.  I've been lacking a sense of direction partly because I want to do it all and then fail to get anything done... am I alone here?  That need to do it all is actually the culprit to my fogginess!  I decided that with this week off from work, I would take time to regroup, focus on what I want to achieve this next year and make a bit of a plan.  Admittedly, planning is the one thing I struggle with immensely!  So obviously this is one of the aspects of my life that I need to focus on. As they say, fail to plan... plan to fail.  I honestly believe there is so much truth to that because I feel like I've failed over and over again due to my lack of planning. With that being said, I want to start 2018 on a positive note!

I love this time of year because starting a new year is essentially like turning over a new chapter, a new beginning, a fresh start, a clean slate... OK you get where I'm going with this!  Who doesn't love that?!  After carefully reflecting on this past year and all of the things that have cluttered my life, I have decided to use these 'failures' as lessons.  I will focus on changing the things that need a little tweaking .  Setting these intentions is important to me because I'm essentially holding myself accountable for my successes and failures. People have a tendency to knock New Year's resolutions but I don't like to look at it as a resolution but simply setting an intention and creating a fresh start.  I picked up a new journal and am using it to write this next chapter of my life.  While many questions still remain uncertain, I do know that planning ahead will help me remain focused and organized therefore I intend to become a bit more of a planner.

I also want to become more active in 2018.  This past year had me driving to my daughter's therapy several times per week, plus their extra curricular activities, the blog, cooking, cleaning etc that I neglected to make time for myself.  I know that going to the gym is not a realistic option for me at this very moment, but I've been researching ways that I can maintain an active lifestyle from the comfort of my own home.  Once I've established a good routine/program, I'll happily share it with you.  I intend to start going to hot yoga again.  I practiced hot yoga for years and felt wonderful doing it.  Somehow I stopped going and I miss terribly.  Once the brutal part of winter subsides a bit, I will start practicing yoga in a studio again.  Until then, I have plenty of means of doing this in my house as well.

I've been thinking about the direction of the blog lately.  I've taken to insta-stories quite a few times to survey you guys (thank you to all who participate, your opinion matters).  Seems as though most of you enjoy my beauty posts a bit more than fashion.  While I plan on continuing both because fashion and shopping posts are a passion of mine, I realize that beauty is where it all began and I will always stay true to that.  Having said that, I thought I'd throw something else into the mix this coming year with a series called 'coffee talk'.  This is going to be a bit of an outlet for me to vent and chat about whatever struggles I'm going through as a mom, wife, human etc.  While I don't plan on divulging all of the details of my life, I think that this is something that is relatable to many and perhaps we can help each other out through some of these struggles.  I think it may even be more interesting if you guys want to throw some ideas at me of topics that you'd like for me to touch on.  Hey why not?!

I decided that I wanted to start the year on a positive note (I mean really, does anyone really wanna start the year off on a negative note?! Duh!) but you understand what I'm trying to say!  My birthday is on January 5th and for the first time in many years (excluding my trip to Paris a couple of years ago), I've decided to take a personal day and pamper myself.  I booked a couple of spa treatments at my favorite spa.  Then I'm headed to my favorite mall to buy myself a really expensive bag because again why not?!  Lastly, I will go out to dinner with my birthday twin and our hubbies to celebrate our special day!  Honestly, I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate.  So Mother Nature, I ask you now to spare us from snow on the 5th OK?!  Also, praying we are all healthy so that we can make this happen but these are things that I cannot control and I am certainly not going to stress over that which I can't control!

Lastly, yesterday my blog turned SIX!  Six years ago I embarked on this amazing journey not quite knowing where it would take me but feeling immensely positive that wherever it did, it would be amazing!  I have since been a finalist in Allure's Beauty Blogger Awards, filmed an IT Cosmetics commercial out in LA, worked with amazing brands and attended some awesome events.  I am incredibly grateful to YOU, my beautiful, devoted readers who take the time to read my posts, follow my social media channels and share this little adventure with me.  I so appreciate you and your continued support!  Cheers to another successful year!

CAT EYE HACK! Fool Proof Tutorial!

Thursday, December 28, 2017

I've loved the look of cat eyes for YEARS!  However, i have terrible eye allergies which keep me from reaching for my favorite liquid liner pens.  It's so frustrating to end up with a smeared mess after all that work.  Besides, is it me or is it essentially impossible to get an even line on both eyes!  Ugh!  Well, i've discovered a way to create a cat eye that won't smear and is basically fool proof!  Trust me, you can do this with your eyes closed.... you're welcome! Here's how!

Take a creamy, long lasting, smudge proof pencil liner (i personally LOVE Pixi's Endless Silky Eye Pen and Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes which you might be able to tell by the size of my pencils in the picture below).  These are my everyday go-to situation and i go through them like nobody's business! Line your upper lash line as thick or thin as you'd like your line to be bringing it only to the corner of your eyes.  Don't create your wing just yet.  You don't have to create a perfect line, just be sure to cover the area.  Then, using a skinny, flat angled brush (i love this IT Cosmetics option - i have two because it also makes for a perfect eyebrow brush) go over the line you just created and smooth it out.  This way the brush grabs the product and then you can swipe outwards to create your wing.  That's essentially it!  I rarely mess up when using this method of application. You can go over your liner as often as necessary to perfect the wing.  I also like to use these pointy q-tips to clean out any edges that need thinning.  The wonderful thing about this type of winged liner is that A, it's super easy to apply, and B these types of liners are smudge and water proof so once it sets, it won't smear! Can i get an amen?!  I created a quick video tutorial for instagram which i'm posting here as well to give you a better visual.  I'm also listing all the products i've used on my face for this look.  I hope this helps, especially with New Year's Even fast approaching!

Products I Used

Laura Geller The Audrey, The Sophia and The Marilyn Palettes (can't put these down, they're SO GOOD!)

Enjoy this little video tutorial and i hope you have the most AMAZING New Year!  Cheers!

Best Stocking Stuffers!

Sometimes, the little things make me the happiest!  This is why i truly enjoyed composing this post!  Stocking stuffers are such a fun way to add a little something extra to your loved ones' gifts and often times, the gifts i have the most fun picking out!  You may see a bit of a color theme here but I'm so into rose golds and pinks that i simply couldn't help myself!  Ooops!  OK so let's chat about why i selected these items.

I spotted this mouse pad and was immediately drawn to the gorgeous marble print with gold accents.  It's just so beautiful and will make the perfect finishing touch to anyone's desk.  From a blogger's perspective, i actually think it makes a gorgeous photo prop as well!

Speaking of props, could you just for this adorable pink letter board?  If pink is not your jam, they come in a variety of colors and sizes.  I currently have one over my mantle and love the way it looks.  Best part?  You can change the wording according to your mood or season!

My girls LOVE playing tic tac toe.  I'm obsessed with this sweet little @ and # set. When you're done playing, it will dress up your coffee table in the sweetest of ways!  I'm also loving this 'girl boss' journal to write your plans to take over the world... or at least meal plan for the week?!

I love cozy winter hats with big fluffy pom poms and this one has my heart!  If you've kept up with my blog for the past few years, you know I'm obsessed with Pixi Glow Tonic!  This stuff is MAGIC!  Speaking of magic... have you ever tried an IT Cosmetics brush? If the answer is no then surely you haven't lived!  This sweet little set will bring cheer to all the beauty lovers out there!

How about a bottle of wine with an initial wine stopper?  I spotted this one and loved it!  I've been in the market for a new iphone and when i finally upgrade, I'm dressing it up with this case!  It's stunning!  Speaking of phones, this iPhone stand has been a life saver!  You can charge it while propping it up for facetime or shooting an insta-stories video?  It's even perfect for watching YouTube videos!  Last but most certainly not least, for all the ladies that love to glow, toss a little Laura Geller Gelato Swirl highlighter in their stocking and you'll be their favorite person in the world!  Trust me on this!

The list could easily go on forever but these are things I'm currently obsessing over so i thought I'd share them with you.  I honestly cannot wrap my head around the fact that Christmas is in just over a week.... where does time go?!

Best Gifts For The World Traveler!

There is nothing better than planning a trip somewhere exciting!  Whether it be sightseeing in Europe or sipping a tropical drink along side gorgeous turquoise waters!  For today's gift guide, I decided to focus on the person who loves to travel!  I rounded up a few fun gifts that is sure to make travel even more fun!

I'm in the market for some new luggage.  The first set we got for our wedding was quite durable except I quickly learned that it was too heavy!  Picture me at the airport, on route to my honeymoon in Hawaii removing items from my half packed bag!  I couldn't believe it!  My bag was literally only half full but the bag itself weighed so much that I couldn't truly ever fill it.  Uhhhh what's the purpose then? So yeah, lesson learned.  I found these super cute and lightweight (no worries, I got you covered girlfriend) luggage pieces that are both stylish and durable!  I know if I got one of these for Christmas, I would be thrilled!

Now let's chat accessories!  First, you'll need a good water bottle. If you're going on a long road trip, having a good, insulated bottle is essential!  This bottle will keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot for hours!  Ever since I purchased one, I could never go back to my old bottles.  I love sipping on cold water hours after filling my bottle! Besides, it's super cute!

When I travel, I always pack a set of headphones!  I'm literally drooling over these gorgeous, wireless gold Beats headphones!  Seriously, could you just die?!  I'm also loving this marble iPhone case.  I adore the gold accents!   This tiny travel brush set stole my heart!  I love that it's housed in this adorable rose gold pouch adorned with a pom pom.

Lastly, a travel tote is a must!  When I spotted this beauty, I simply couldn't leave it behind.  I have gotten so many compliments on it and have no doubt it will make the best gift!  I also adore this bonjour beach tote!  No doubt I will be taking this cutie along with me on my next beach vacation!

I hope I've given you some fun ideas for your last minute gifts! Stay tuned for more gift guides this week and be sure to visit the previous posts for more fun ideas!

Best Gifts For the Beauty Lover!

If you've kept up with my blog over the past few years (thank you and yay), y'all know I'm a beauty junkie!  It was very difficult to keep my list short and sweet but while i know there are way more amazing beauty gifts out there, these are the ones that I'm seriously loving so why not share them with my beauty BFFs right?!

First let's chat Clarisonic!  I can't say enough about how much i adore my devices!  I've been a devoted Clarisonic user for several years now and i know first hand the benefits that come with using this tiny little powerhouse!  Seriously, the results are incredibly!  I'm LOVING this Clarisonic/Tatcha gift set.  If you've never tried a Tatcha product, this is your chance to fall madly in love!  Pair it with a Clarisonic and it's sure to be a win/win situation!   Also, another amazing gift for someone who already owns and loves their Clarisonic, is the brush head set!  Replacing your brush head regularly is essential so having a few extra is always a great idea.  It's also a wonderful way to sample the variety of brush heads that Clarisonic has to offer.   From targeting deep pores to foundation application, Clarisonic offers a multitude of brushes to suit your needs making the Clarisonic devices a multi-tasking device!

I've been a Fresh Beauty fan for years and years!  My first ever product purchase was the sugar lip polish followed by the sugar lip treatment.  These were signature staples in my makeup regimen and there's a good reason why!  They leave my lips absolutely amazing!  This is the perfect time of year to stock up on the sugar lip polish because we all know chapped lips are the absolute worst!  Follow with a sugar lip treatment and your lips will thank you!  No seriously, they will! I love that the sugar lip treatments are available in a variety of shades or clear to suit your preference.  The Sugar Lip Suite and Body Care Besties Gift Sets are my favorite!

First Aid Beauty was initially recommended to me by a Sephora employee.  I was desperately looking for a good cleanser that the sales associate spoke volumes of this brand so i immediately purchased it.  I have since become a huge fan of their product line.  One product in particular I'm loving is the Ultra Repair Cream.  It's a major multi-tasker because i can apply it on my face for a pack of hydration, but i can also use it on my hands and body.  It's so versatile making it the perfect gift!  The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Five Piece Discovery Kit is the perfect way to sample a few of FAB's amazing line of products!  Another great gift set (and one of QVC's IQ Steal) is the First Aid Beauty Set of 4 Ultra Repair Kits!  You can gift the entire set or gift each of the four tubs! You seriously can't beat this deal!

I've been loving Laura Geller's product line!  Last month, my friends at LG sent me their holiday collection to try which i featured here.  Aside from being completely obsessed with their highlighters (I've been wearing them for quite some time now), i have to say, I've fallen madly in love with her eye shadows.  I have yet to put down the stunning Starlet Collection Set!  So when i spotted this gorgeous palette, i knew immediately it would brighten anyone's Christmas!  The range of colors is insanely beautiful and if the quality is anything like the Starlet set (which BTW, also makes an beautiful gift idea), you'll be just as wow'd as i was and surely will not want to put it down... like ever!

Lastly, Burberry does luxury right!  Wanna gift someone a beautifully packaged, luxurious gift without breaking the bank?  I've been eyeing this gift set for quite some time and i may just have to add it to my virtual shopping card because it's seriously perfection!  The primer is what i currently wear and it's uhhhhhmazing!  I also have and love the mascara!  The eyeshadow and deep red lippie are swoon worthy! In fact, I'm gonna order this set now before it sells out or i will seriously kick myself!

I'll be sharing holiday gift guides and ideas all week so be sure to check back!  Thank you so much for reading! Xo, Carla

*Some products were sent for testing and consideration.  Others are products i've purchased myself.  All opinions are my own.

Best Gifts For Your Puppy!
With the holidays fast approaching, i thought I'd share some fun gift guides to help with your the t minute shopping!  Today I'm focusing on the sweetest little fur friends.  You all know I'm obsessed with my dog Jack and his cousins Jiggy and Shanti!  Well, i wanted to share a couple of things that he is LOVING right now!

On a recent Target run, i picked up this super adorable Bark Brew toy.  Being a coffee lover, i simply couldn't pass it up.  Jack has a ton of toys but he's been reaching for this one more than any other and it's the cutest thing watching him run around the house with a toy latte in his mouth!  The gingerbread boy toy will be under the tree for him to unwrap on Christmas day and i have no doubt he will LOVE it.

I also wanted to chat about Jack's favorite treats!  We are very careful with what we feed Jack because we hate all the unnecessary and at times harmful junk that is put into dog food.  The Barkery Barkshop has the absolute best puppy treats available!  They're made with 100% natural ingredients (think, apples, pumpkin, peanut butter - note there are peanut butter free options too... whole wheat flour, cinnamon and such).  When i purchase a batch, i always keep them in my refrigerator and every morning, Jack waits for me in front of the fridge for his favorite treats.  They come in a variety of sizes to ensure that all pups (big and small) could enjoy these special treats.  Wanna gift these to your favorite fur friend?  Simple request a red bow and your package is ready to be gifted!  I've been a customer for quite some time now and can attest to the fact that these are made with 100% the best ingredients and a ton of love!  Purchase these delicious treats here!

Lastly, a lot of your have asked about Jack's latest tracksuit on my insta-stories!  Well, his cousin Jiggy McGee was wearing this adorable Adidog (haha funny play on adidas) red tracksuit and we couldn't resist buying one for Jack!  We bought it in blue though Jiggy's is red and is super cute.  We are going to gift Shanti a pink one for Christmas!  You can purchase it here!

Stay tuned for a ton of gift guides this week! Thank you so much for reading! Xo, Carla - FMM
